Popular online auction house eBay.com recently launched a new feature to its website. Dubbed as "eBay Neighborhoods ", they launched a social network site which contains more than 600 small social communities aimed at connecting people that share “the same passion for products and topics.” The social network is basically small communities organized according to products or items.

By adding eBay Neighborhoods on their site, eBay hopes that buyers and sellers will be able to get what they are looking for faster, and more conveniently than before. Vice president of buyer experience at eBay Jamie Iannone was quoted in saying that the company was hopeful that eBay Neighborhoods makes online trading “even easier by combining commerce, communication, and community in a way that enhances traditional online buying and selling."ebay

eBay Neighborhoods gets contents from already existing eBay networks like eBay blogs, guides, reviews, and product searches. As a member of eBay, you customize your neighborhood list. The new social network also features a more dynamic message board and is filled with lots of product pictures.

The most popular community so far is Coffee Lovers but the list of online communities is expected to grow at an exponential rate through community feedback.

For more than 17 years, eBay Inc. has connected hundreds of millions of people and has been the choice for global commerce, payments and communications. The company today controls some of the strongest brands including eBay, PayPal, Skype, and Shopping.com.
