TV-Links Shut Down

British site TV-Links was shut down last Thursday by UK-based Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) and had some of the site’s staff arrested.

I don’t know about you but when I started this blog I was already watching shows and movies from TV-Links and I never mentioned it here ‘coz I knew I might get them in trouble for publicizing their "illegal" activity. Here are the fact as reported by the Guardian : "…The arrest and the closure of the site –  – came during an operation by officers from Gloucestershire County Council trading standards in conjunction with investigators from Fact and Gloucestershire Police

… ‘Sites such as TV Links contribute to and profit from copyright infringement by identifying, posting, organising, and indexing links to infringing content found on the internet that users can then view on demand by visiting these illegal sites,’ said a spokesman for FACT."

I guess every country in the free world has the same political opinion on the matter but personally for the millions of us who kept TV-links in our bookmarks.. "WHY?" Linking is just linking and as TV-Links put it, they don’t keep the content, they just distribute it. Besides, isn’t linking what Google, Microsoft and Yahoo do? Linking is also the heart of the internet per se. Marshall Kirkspatrick put it "…Critics of the legal move argue that if linking to illegal content is itself illegal, much of the internet, including Google and YouTube, would be much more reasonable targets than this little British site."

Sigh… There’s no point arguing with the law. Good thing there are work arounds. Take note that TV-Links did not host any of the shows we enjoyed on them. Therefore those videos are still out there and I already got the links which I will not be publishing here. Besides, it didn’t take me very long to find the links again, you’ll just need to look in the right places.

My condolences to TV-links and let me just say that I for one really enjoyed and cherished your site. As for FACT, I know it’s just your job but if the people want it for free, you’ll never ever stop them.
