Windows Vista users have something new to tinker with.  Today, Yahoo! released an optimized version of their popular instant messenger client for Windows Vista.

Yahoo Messenger has proven itself to be a stable and preferred IM client by many many people in the world.  Their current stable version YM 8 is working very well and has integrated features like SMS, Voice, Chatrooms and File Transfers.  YM 9 which is current ly in public beta is a refinement of the previous version and will soon come out of the beta phase.  Surprisingly, with Windows XP still being the leading operating system in the world and Vista still gaining some foothold, Yahoo has released another version of Y!Messenger aside from YM 9.

The Yahoo Messenger for Vista is different.  For now it is only just capable of instant messaging, UI tweaks and file transfer.  Josh Jacobson, Product manager of Yahoo Messenger for Vista says that all other features including webcam, voice, chatroom and new features under wraps will be available soon.

the YM for vista however has a lot of fun stuff to offer in its early life.  Unlike YM’s for WinXP, this version has a more flexible user interface which allows users to change colors and layouts of the contact list and IM windows.  Moreover, enhanced emoticons and avatars are also a new thing on Yahoo Messenger for Vista.

So far it’s all just fun stuff.  We expect to see something new, different and cutting edge on the YM for Vista in a couple of months.
