Saudi Blogger Arrested

Saudi blogger Fouah al-Farhan was taken in for questioning by the Interior ministry today.

This is not the first arrest of a blogger in the middle east and sadly it probably won’t be the last.  Mr Farhan runs his popular blog Alfarhan.org and covers a wide range of topics including Saudi politics.  In a nutshell, many would consider him a vocal activist against Saudi’s alleged practice of imprisoning political prisoners.

The Interior Ministry however did not say why they arrested al-Farhan except for the vague reason of questioning.

Bloggers in Saudi Arabia have mobilized in protest of the arrest.  They have of course been rallying for support on their blogs and trying to get international support to have al-Farhan released immediately.

Personally, I have a faint idea of Saudi politics and laws but I do know that some freedoms aren’t enjoyed as much.  Now if the government of the Kingdom deems it necessary to question or suspect al-Farhan, I hope they have based their intel on facts.
