Yahoo has announced its support for the OpenID project.

This is a big one up for the OpenID project which hopes to universalize users’ sign in accounts into a single internet identity.  Simply speaking, one account for all sites.  Many big names have already joined the project including Google, Plaxo and AOL.

The addition of Yahoo is still the project’s biggest catch.  Yahoo still accounts for about 250 million accounts and is the largest email ID provider to date.  This means that 250 million people will be able to sign into OpenID compliant sites using their Yahoo ID.

OpenID eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites, simplifying your online experience.
