PARIS (AP) — French wireless operator Orange said Friday it has signed a deal with Apple Inc. to sell its iPhone in the Middle East, Africa and several European countries.

France Telecom’s Orange said in a one-sentence statement that it will sell the handset in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and African markets later this year. [AP]

This is the nth announcement of new iPhone deals struck recently.  First there was the Announcement from Rogers to distribute the iPhone in Canada , then there’s Vodaphone for 10 new countries in Europe and Africa, and SingTel for 4 coutnries in Asia.

All these announcements are due for reality after June andand there have been no confirmations of whether the iPhone in question would definitely be the 3G version.  It may be educated to assume that it is (due to the inventory dumping of the last 2G iphones in Britain and online ) but until there is a press release all we can do speculate.

These new deals Apple is striking with mobile carriers worldwide may be the final step before launching a 3G iPhone  worldwide.  I feel pretty bad for those who already have their 2G iPhones.
