firefox download day

Ah, finally.  June 17th, the day of reckoning.  the world’s favorite browser’s latest version is now available , Firefox 3 from Mozilla.

Mozilla Firefox 3 released a beta version a couple of months ago and recently release candidates were also released to the public for scrutiny.  For the past week, the blogosphere was talking about today’sfinal release of the supposedly more stable, more secure  and feature studded Firefox 3.  Mozilla also urged everybody to download the browser today in an attempt to set a Guiness World Record for the most downloads in 24 hours.   The magic number they are aiming for is 5 million.

However, Firefox 3 was supposed to be available at 12PM (PST) and to the disappointment of millions of people, the site was down until about 2PM.  It’s all good now, a rough start but by now I’m sure the servers are having the times of their lives with the amount of people trying to get the browser.

So what’s new with Firefox 3?  Well, they got a new look, for starters. I won’t list down everything here but for the complete list, go here .  So here’s a few, one click bookmarking, instant website ID, full zoom, password manager, smart location bar, and a platform native look.

So, I’ll be back tomorrow to give my 2 cents on the new browser, but after using the release candidates, I’ll say, it’s still the best browser since Firefox 2.
