LG and Apple have renewed their vows. The Korean electronics company has agreed to supply California-based Apple LCD panels that will be used in Macs and MacBooks. Apple paid $500 million as a down payment for the supply according to LG’s filing in the Korean exchange.

"LG Display’s panels already represent more than 70 percent of Apple’s notebooks and monitors," said Park Sang-hyun, an analyst at HI Investment & Securities.

"Although LG Display already had a relationship with Apple, the deal’s duration and the size of the advance show that the two companies are involved in a long-term, strategic alliance," said Son Young-jun, a spokesman for LG Display. [Reuters]

This new deal of course will only increase LG’s market for LCD monitors. Imagine the sales pitches in retail stores, "Yeah, this LG monitor is exactly the same as the display on a Mac!"
