Like many Congressmen, Senators and Obama, the Pope’s daily readouts and speeches will soon be available on Youtube.

The details of the accord are due to be presented on Friday at a news conference attended by Vatican officials as well as Henrique de Castro, managing director of media solutions for Google, which owns YouTube.[Reuters]

I’d say it’s about time. The Vatican like the United States is a very powerful and influential force on this planet. Not only is the Vatican the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, it is also a country and as one, a Political influence. Hence having its own Youtube channel is long overdue.

By habit, it seems the Vatican does not jump on every other opportunity to launch a media campaign, as an example, opened their website in 1995. This is late by internet standards.

Nonetheless, fans of the Pope will be able to save up for that trip to the Vatican without missing a speech.
