World’s Largest Cellphone Unveiled In Chicago

As part of the celebration of their launch in Chicago, Cricket, a leading provider of wireless service, and Samsung, a leading mobile phone distributor unveiled the world’s largest working mobile phone last March 11 in Fidelity Plaza.

The people of Chicago were able to make free, unlimited calls and SMS, and even play games and challenges on the 15-foot tall by 11-foot wide Samsung Messager.

Not only was the giant cell phone the centerpiece of Cricket’s debut in the Windy City, ti was also Cricket and Samsung’s attempt at setting a Guinness World record.

Danny Girton, Jr., Guinness World Records adjudication executive, was present during the event and confirmed that the supersized Samsung phone is indeed the world’s largest working cellular phone.

"We are excited to recognize the world’s largest working cell phone from Cricket and Samsung Mobile as a new Guinness World Record," said the Guinness executive. "As this was a successful first record attempt, it is a tremendous accomplishment and we are delighted to welcome them into the Guinness World Records family."

The world’s largest cell phone was on display at in Fidelity Plaza in downtown Chicago until March 15. For those who missed the event, visit Samsung USA or Cricket to see pictures of the record setting mobile phone.
