Black Screen of Death

You might have heard about Windows users (even those not using Windows 7, mind) complaining about a plain black screen which appears upon logging in, – and during which, the systems lock up – and remains locked.

There have also been reports of users getting an additional My Computer window and the system stopping completely.

In response, Microsoft is currently "investigating reports that its latest release of security updates is resulting in system issues for some customers." This means that until then, you’re on your own. UK anti-malware software developer, Prevx, thinks that a recent Windows security patch altered Access Control List entries in the registry which keeps some software from running properly. Not surprisingly, the company has created a solution for this dilemma.

We’ve yet to see if it Prevx’s fix actually works. So until then, we think it is best to stay on the safe side and wait for Microsoft’s take on this.
