The Apple iPad is slowly getting more and more popular with consumers to the tune of around 2 million units sold of late. The sales of this new Apple tablet seems to remain strong with forecasts of 7 million units to be sold by the end of the year worldwide. The increasing demand and popularity of the iPad may have boosted the market for tablet PC’s recently.

What this surge in popularity seen in Apple iPad sales may eventually affect another segment in the market- netbook PC sales. It seems that the iPad may have already have taken some market share previously belonging to netbook PC’s. Consumers may now slowly be shifting towards buying tablet PC’s instead of netbooks. There might be a growing number of consumers who see tablets as more convenient to use than netbooks.

There also seems to be a change in mindset among many gadget users because of the arrival of the iPad. Prior to its launch, many people have been criticizing the device for selling a “want” rather than a “need”. And for this reason, many experts believe that iPad sales won’t be as high as expected. But a similar case have happened during the early days of the iPhone. The same situation may be happening now wherein the device have captured the attention and interest of consumers well enough for them to buy it.

Analysts say that sales for the iPad will continue to increase while netbook sales will lose some market share. That goes to show that consumer sentiments don’t usually go with what technology experts say. As long as a certain device appeals and interests them, it will sell regardless of what features it may lack or may be limited to.
