Although it may not have been considered as a major market only 5 to 6 months ago, tablet PC’s seem to have become an important segment for major device manufacturers. The surge of interest on the device may have been spurred on by the entrance of Apple in the market with its new iPad tablet.

It was probably because of the positive reception garnered by the Apple iPad that more and more manufacturers began to take notice of what was once considered only as a niche market. Suddenly there are more and more tablet PC’s being launched and planned.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab may be on its way to provide some competition for the Apple iPad. Toshiba is also on the way of debuting its own tablet device in the form of the new Toshiba Folio Android tablet.

Hewlett-Packard is also on the way of coming up with its version of the tablet PC. The HP Slate is currently being developed which was announced by the company as early as January of this year. Even Research In Motion is said to be coming up with its own Blackpad tablet, although it still remains a rumor for now.

The many up and coming tablet PC’s for the consumer market surely shows that there is a demand for computing devices that may fall between a smart phone and a netbook. The popularity of the Apple iPad after its launch has recently proven it. As a result, many more tablets are coming up, with the competition in this market segment suddenly heating up. The Apple iPad seems to be the market leader as of now. Who knows how long it may be able to hold on to its domination by the challenge posed by the upcoming new tablets.
