Twitter Overtakes MySpace

Twitter has become quite popular nowadays. And its popularity is even increasing now that more and more people are coming on board and join in the “Tweeting” habit. It has become so popular that it has even recently overtaken MySpace in terms of users.

According to numbers from Comscore for last month, the four-year old micro blogging site has overtaken MySpace with 96 million unique visitors in August as compared to 95 million for the social networking site. Twitter’s numbers was up 76 percent for the same period last year whereas MySpace numbers dropped 17 percent during the same period.

Twitter expects that the number of visitors will further increases a result of their recent redesign.

MySpace, on the other hand, has been through quite scary competition of late with the social networking giant Facebook still reining supreme. It is just unfortunate that MySpace has to deal with Facebook’s gigantic numbers trying to attract users with almost the same features. This is what gives Twitter the edge since it may be totally unlike any other social networking site out there and offers a simple feature that not only is quite popular today but also something that even Facebook would want to emulate in some way. Now, if only Twitter can attract more advertisers into its fold, then it would truly be a great thing for them.
