It is not only social networking that has been getting hot online these days. The success of Facebook also helped other online companies along the way. Accompanying Facebook in this surge in popularity is social gaming. In fact, both seem to have become ideal partners enjoying some good fortune.

Social gaming has taken great strides especially when Zynga partnered up with Facebook to bring social games such as FarmVille to the rapidly increasing users of the social network. It went on to gain around more than 57 million active users to date on Facebook. But the success story for Zynga did not stop there are their newer game offering CityVille even garnered more popularity than its predecessor did.

Zynga’s CityVille, a social game where players are allowed to build up their own cities from the ground up, was only recently introduced to Facebook for more than a month or so. But it has gotten quite popular in such a short span of time. CityVille currently has reported over 100 million active users. The number may be considered as quite an achievement for a social game that was just released over a month ago. But it may not be that entirely impossible considering that Zynga is offering the said game in Facebook and for all its hundreds and millions of users.

The success of its social games has helped Zynga maintain its top position in social gaming. It has recently become quite competitive in this type of market, now that more and more companies are coming in to try their own luck in the world of social gaming. No one can really know for sure if social gaming is just a fad that people would soon get tired of eventually. But for now, it may be enjoying its success as more and more users in Facebook, especially the newer ones, are being introduced to such online activities for the first time.
