Recent Blackberry Outage May Further Affect RIM

Just when Blackberry maker Research In Motion is on its way to rising up from a disappointing year, the company hit another snag that might further keep its customers away. Blackberry users in the UK and many parts of Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East complained of not being able to access email, messaging and Internet services on their Blackberry smart phones that started around three days ago.  Many subscribers were complaining but cannot reach RIM officials for some explanation on the outage but to no avail.

It may now be considered as one of the worst Blackberry outages in years. It may have come at a worse time when RIM may be trying to build up its already tarnished brand. With the outage even affecting US and Canadian Blackberry users will not help at all. This recent setback may eventually const the Canadian company big time.

While RIM may have already found the cause of the problem in its system and is slowly bringing back their services to normal, the repercussions of the outage may just cost the company its chance to bounce back. With its major competitor Apple about to release its new iPhone 4S, some current Blackberry users, mostly business executive and professionals may now be rethinking about whether to continue their love affair with the device with the threat of other outages in the horizon. It might be expected that a lot may have been affected by the Blackberry outage so much that some may eventually be going over the fence to try the “other” smart phone.

Things may not be going RIM’s way when their road to recovery is paved with delayed new product launches and a fizzled tablet to boot. With RIM stock prices now on its 5-year low, things are looking pretty bleak for RIM and the Blackberry. We might just be seeing another company about to bite the dust in the midst of tight competition in the market, lest some sort of miracle happens somewhere for the unfortunate RIM.
