Want to buy stuff online, but insist on not using a credit card or applying for a bank account? Worry no more! PayNearMe offers a mobile version of its alternative payment system that lets you pay cold hard cash for goods and services being sold online.

So how does it work? First, check if the online store provides a “pay with cash” option (like Greyhound.com for your long-distance bus rides). Then, choose “mobile” and enter your phone number. Once you have received the confirmation text message, click the link provided to open the bar code. Proceed to your local 7-Eleven store (as long as it is within the continental U.S.), have your bar code scanned, pay cash, and keep the receipt as proof of purchase. If you do not own a smartphone, you can go old-fashioned and have the bar code printed right out of your desktop, then visit the 7-Eleven store to complete the transaction.
