A post on Pocket-lint reveals a very juicy tech rumor: Facebook is reportedly planning to outright acquire Opera Software, maker of desktop, tablet, and smartphone browsers known to load quicker than many popular browsers in the Internet.

Citing an unnamed source, the report also adds that Facebook’s acquisition of the Norway-based software company is part of the social network’s master plan of venturing into the browser wars–a battlefield being fought between Microsoft (Bing), Google, Mozilla (Firefox), Apple (Safari), and recently Yahoo (Axis).

Both parties decline to comment on the matter, but sources close to Opera–as reported by The Next Web–claims that the company is shopping for buyers and it has halted hiring new employees.
