Samsung to Dish Out Own Social Media

Samsung has never been shy about its exploits to become the dominant force in mobile technology. Apart from its top-selling smartphones, the South Korean company also develops processors and software such as ChatON and the Siri rival called S Voice. However, one aspect of mobile tech remains elusive to the chaebol: social media, perhaps until today.

A report from The Korea Times claim that Samsung is cooking up its own Facebook-style service, which will be launch early 2013. The social network, which goes by the very transparent code name “Samsung Facebook,” will supposedly be integrated with Amazon’s cloud computing platform and will use its Family Story network as the service’s starting point.

The company, however, stopped short in developing its social media service as a challenge to Facebook, but rather as Samsung’s means of expanding the service “across different devices from different companies across different mobile platforms.”
