British business magnate Richard Branson has long stated that he would be on board Virgin Galactic’s first commercial flight to space, but his latest announcements indicate that space tourism will indeed become a reality. He has confirmed that it will take place sometime in 2013 and his two adult children will tag along for the ride.

This space trip will be conducted aboard the company’s SpaceShipTwo craft, which has completed several test flights. The space craft can fly 100 kilometers (a bit over 60 miles) above the Earth’s surface for a half-hour flight with five minutes of weightlessness. Airplanes, depending on the model, can reach up to 15.5 kilometers.

According to the Associated Press, about 530 people have already signed up for their ride to space, which costs $200,000 per person. Each passenger will have to take part in a week of training before their trip.
