Go Daddy Claims Outage Not a Hack

September 11th, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Web domain registrar Go Daddy suffered a massive outage yesterday, which started at around 1 p.m. EST and was fully restored six hours later.

Although a hacker group claimed responsibility for the service outages, Go Daddy’s interim CEO Scott Wagner insists that what happened was “not a hack” and not a case of a denial of service attack (DDoS). According to Wagner, the problem is due to “a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables,” adding that data was never at risk during the outage.

The CEO added that Go Daddy has taken steps to prevent a repeat of the problem.
