Google Acquires Nik Software

Google has been acquiring companies left and right, but this recent one might be more important than others. The search engine company has announced it has bought imaging app developer Nik Software, known for its professional photography apps like Capture NX and Efex Pro.

But what Google might be eyeing is Snapseed, Nik Software’s simple imaging tool for desktop and iOS devices. Although Nik Software and Google’s Senior Engineering Vice President Vic Gundotra are silent about the nitty-gritty of the purchase, it does not take much to imagine that this could be Google’s way of attempting to rival Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram.

Prior to the purchase of Nik Software, Google does not have any direct program that can equal Instagram for its Android devices and Google+. This deal will most likely create waves among its users.
