Facebook to Launch Gift-Giving Feature

Remember when Facebook had a gift-giving feature that lets you send virtual items to friends? The popular social network is reviving that feature, but this time it’s for real.

In a bid to seeking new ways to add revenue, Facebook will allow users to buy and send tangible items to friends without having to leave the site. The gifting service is only available in the United States for now, with hundreds of options from partners such as Starbucks and 1-800-Flowers.com. Facebook will then share an undisclosed percentage of revenue to its partners.

With Facebook Gifts, users can pay right away or add payment details later. Meanwhile, recipients can choose the color, size or flavor of an item or switch it to something else. The social networking site also lets members decide whether to post the gift to a friend’s Timeline or alert them privately.
