The .xxx generic top-level domain has been rife with controversy since it was launch, from lawsuits from adult entertainment companies to censorship by some countries. But one beneficial thing that has arisen from the controversy is that websites ending with .xxx might be good for the customer, starting with the introduction of its own search engine.

Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry (the company that solely operates the .xxx domain), says that a team of “6 or 7 developers” has been working on the search engine for over a year now, making sure that it would provide the look and feel of a regular search engine. It comes without advertisement, much like Google.

Like your ordinary search engine, the .xxx search engine scans for viruses and malware to ensure safe browsing. What makes it different is that it narrows the search according to the customer’s preference and kinks and it only searches for websites with .xxx.

Lawley insists that .xxx has hardly put pornography producers out of business, adding that a true end of the porn industry is “when .xxx is launched and none of that happened.”
